How did you do?
haha im a libraa! :P
ReplyDeletethe quizes were easy until the you had to choose whether is was a simple, compound or complex. i had trouble telling some of the complex sentences apart from the others.
ReplyDeleteIf you see a dependent clause, it's complex!
ReplyDeleteI thought they were kind of easy, but i didn't like that fill in the blanks one, That was hard.
ReplyDeleteyeah,i also had trouble with compound or complex. that was hard, but simple sentences are easy.
ReplyDeletehi mrs simas! i hate grammar
ReplyDeletei'm a leooo! grrr
ReplyDeleteI'm not a big fan of it in isolation, either.
ReplyDeleteHi Mrs.Simas,
ReplyDeleteI did very well overall except on of the quizzes that asked for all of them, but the last quiz that asked for all of them i took the time to make sure i was doing it right and i did better!!!!
This is not as hard as I thought! :D
ReplyDeleteNice posts! Taking your time and having the patience to think things through is often the key!
ReplyDeletethe quizzes were awesome and they helped me study! but i still think this concept is a little hard
ReplyDeleteMaynard James Keenan is a silly name!
Me not goods at my grammars.....
ReplyDeleteSo glad the quizzes helped, but back up off of my MJK! (Note: His real name is just James Keenan; Maynard was a nickname he acquired while doing a stint in the army. Not sure why.)
ReplyDeletesome quizzes were a little harder than the other ones but they really helped. thanks for posting them!

ReplyDeleteI took all of the quizzes and did relatively well. Even if I got some wrong, I was able to locate and correctmy mistakes. I'm glad that you posted these; alot of the ones with commands and questions were helpful.
ReplyDeleteI did do the quizzes and they were pretty easy.
ReplyDeleteThese were great quizzes and did well.
ReplyDeletei got an 100
ReplyDeletep.s.by the way good song
Hey Mrs. Simas, This is sooo easy!!! I got 100% on almost of the quizzes. I just have one question. Is the sentence, "Because of rain, the baseball game was postponed." a simple sentence? I thought it was complex because of the world "because" but the quiz said I was wrong.
ReplyDeleteThanks
I really like the quizzes. I think I am really ready. THey are so helpful. i don't know what libra or leo or whatever those things are i am.
ReplyDeleteQuestion: "Is 'Because of rain, the baseball game was postponed,' a simple sentence?"
ReplyDeleteAnswer: Remember, clauses have verbs. "Because of the rain" does not have a verb, so it's not a clause! It's a phrase. So, there's no dependent clause in the sentence. It's a simple sentence. Thanks!
You guys officially rock! Thanks for trying these quizzes. Nick's post is great; you definitely can learn a lot from trying to understand your mistakes!
ReplyDeleteOh, and we might be listening to that song in class tomorrow. It has a great sense of "tone."
I liked that fill in the gap quiz because it really helped me get that complex sentence thing!!! Thanks!
ReplyDeleteA complex sentence has a dependent clause. You have got to understand dependent clauses if you're going to find one in a sentence. You have got to memorize the words on your flower reference sheet; they will help you find a dependent clause in a sentence. There's really no other way I can say that.
ReplyDeleteA compound sentence doesn't have any dependent clauses at all. It is two simple sentences combined with a comma and conjunction or a semi-colon. A trick I use to tell a compound sentence is to look at the conjunction (FANBOYS). If there's a complete sentence on each side of the conjunction, then it's compound.
I liked the fill in the blank quizes, but i didnt do so good!I got to study!
ReplyDeleteHi, Mrs. Simas are the practice quizzes going to be like the actual one?
ReplyDeleteAll of the quizes were extremely easy. Next time try to put in more challenging ones. ;)
ReplyDeleteLIBRA: A libra is a mix between a lion and a zebra.

Hey, Mrs. Simas. I got 100% on the simple or compound quiz YAY. Oh, and The song I'm Just A Girl by No Doubt is my older sister's favorite song, and I listen to it all the time. It's a good song. Oh, and now i know how to pronounce the word Grammatically correct. LOL
ReplyDelete-Jamie Haines (in period 4 class)
The removed comment was a repeat of another one. I realized it after I published it. Oops!
ReplyDeleteNot every sentence that has a conjunction like "and" is compound. Remember, there can be a compound verb or subject or whatever, BUT a compound sentence has to have two simple sentences combined.
ReplyDeletei got a hundred on three of the quizes i feel pretty good about the quiz on friday
ReplyDelete~marissa h
I passed all of the quizzes and i think im gonna go gr8t tomorrow on the quiz. Just one problem with the third quiz is that it is only about complex sentences and we should get practice in all three catagories.
ReplyDelete"Just one problem with the third quiz is that it is only about complex sentences and we should get practice in all three catagories."
ReplyDeleteThat's why you do all of 'em!
how did most people do on that quiz???? =] or =[ ???
ReplyDelete=[
ReplyDeletei retook those quizzes and i did really well i hope i can do good n the make up quiz
ReplyDeleteI hope so! Hopefully, we'll review in class so much that everyone will finally catch on. Typically, 7th graders on every team have the hardest time with this concept. It's hard for me to understand, since it seems so simple, but then again, I have been doing this stuff for years. I hope the review will help!
ReplyDeletehey mrs simas this has nothing to do with independant and dependant clauses but i was wondering if you could help me with what i should know for the poetry assessment. i know you have been saying some things about it but they are just no clear to me. So it would be great if you could let me know what kinds of things would be on it and some major things i should know and study. Thanks for your help!!
ReplyDeletePoetry Assessment - You will get one poem. You will answer an open response question about it. Review everything in your class work section that we've done on poetry from the day I gave you that yellow sheet of terms until analysis questions for "Ode to an Artichoke."
ReplyDeleteHey mrs.Simas
ReplyDeleteThanks for posting these on your blog I got a 100% on all of them i was so proud of myself. I think i am going to do really well on the retake tomorrow
